Author Lulu Lytle, Foreword by Mitchell Owens
ID: 16035
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Rattan furnishings evoke the glamour and laid-back' elegance of exotic beach houses as well as the informal beauty of plant-filled garden rooms and sun-dappled verandas.

Long fascinated with rattan's versatility, designer Lulu Lytle examines the enduring appeal of this sustainable tropical palm in Rattan: A World of Elegance and Charm. The first book in decades to examine the history and craftsmanship of rattan furniture, this insightful tome showcases rattan's appeal through archival images of beautiful interiors including Madeleine Castaing's winter garden in Paris, Michael Taylor's own Californian beach house, the Titanic's Café Parisian and the Billy Baldwin designed Mr. Kennedy's beauty salon in New York City. Rattan's many personalities are explored through its inclusion in settings as diverse as Impressionist paintings, flamboyant nightclubs and pared down contemporary drawing rooms.

A reflection of its inherent beauty and longevity, antique rattan furniture from the nineteenth century is highly collectible, as are rattan pieces created by giants of modern design such as Josef Hoffmann for Thonet, Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, Jean-Michel Frank for Ecart, Renzo Mongiardino for Bonacina, Arne Jacobsen for Sika, Paul Frankl and Donald Deskey. Rattan pieces have become iconic and highly prized, including Hiroomi Tahara's Wrap Sofa, Franca Helg's Primavera Chair, and the many iterations of the beloved Peacock Chair. Rattan also highlights some of the many tastemakers who have embraced rattan -- from Marella Agnelli, Babe Paley, and Cecil Beaton to leading interior designers including Jeffrey Bilhuber, Veere Grenney, Axel Vervoordt, and Jacques Grange.

About the Author:

Lulu Lytle, long smitten with the romance and versatility of rattan, rescued the last remaining workshop in Britain in 2010 in order to establish Soane Britain's rattan workshop in Leicestershire, England. Currently, Soane employs fifteen craftsmen to make its own range of rattan furniture and lighting as well as bespoke commissions. Mitchell Owens is the decorative arts editor of Architectural Digest and the former interior-design director of Elle Decor. He has contributed to the New York TimesThe World of InteriorsDeparturesTravel + Leisure, and other publications.

Author Katherine Bryan, with Mitchell Owens, Foreword by Roberto Peregalli and Laura Sartori Rimini, Afterword by George Gurley
ID: 18036
Видавництво: Rizzoli

One client, multiple decorators, extraordinarily influential rooms — an intimate look at the interiors of a design aficionada both working with preeminent interior designers and creating her own environments.

The decorating evolution of Bryan — one of the great patrons of interior design — has gone from classic modernism to sumptuous traditionalism to romantic eclecticism and everything in between, with the collaboration of such renowned interior designers as Tom Britt, Mica Ertegun, Susan Gutfreund, Mark Hampton, and Studio Peregalli Sartori. Each residence and each room make up an aesthetic memoir that explores those collaborations, reveals insights into the various processes, and inspires others to look at their own spaces and consider a myriad of beautiful and appropriate options. Anecdotes divulge her astute guidance and the charming idiosyncrasies of some of the twentieth century’s greatest decorators.

For Bryan, decorating has been a fifty-year journey of education, relocation, and transformation — with homes in New York City, Palm Beach, East Hampton, Brussels, and Paris to name a few. Each of the twenty-three residences that Bryan has called her own has been a stepping stone in the development not only of one woman’s style, identity, and character but also of American interior-design history.

Nina Farmer, Andrew Sessa, Mitchell Owens
ID: 17213
Видавництво: Rizzoli

A debut book from award-winning designer Nina Farmer, known for her sophisticated eye and interiors that are elegant, comfortable, and timeless.

Designer Nina Farmer has made a name for herself with her classically beautiful interiors. From reimagining century-old homes to more modern dwellings, Farmer has a way of creating looks that celebrate the past and simultaneously live squarely — and stylishly — in the present. In these pages, Farmer introduces readers to the design solutions she has found for creating that special combination: a carefully curated mix of the classic and the contemporary that looks like it was collected over time rather than created all at once.

The book features nine projects, including a stone-walled 1930s colonial in Westport, Connecticut, a mid-century–inspired beach bungalow on Martha’s Vineyard, and Farmer’s own 1850s Federal-style brownstone in Boston’s Beacon Hill. The book is rounded out with a series of informative essays on the key elements of Farmer’s look, including creating a sense of place, the importance of travel, and collecting art.

Ultimately, the book illustrates how thoughtful, considerate design can give new life to any home and inspires readers to do the same.

About the Authors:

The recipient of the New York School of Interior Design’s prestigious Rising Star Award, Nina Farmer and her striking body of work have been featured in Architectural Digest, Marie Claire Maison, and House Beautiful. She is the recipient of New England Home’s 5 Under 40 Award as well as a member of the 1stDibs 50 list. She lives in Beacon Hill with her family. Mitchell Owens is the American editor of World of Interiors, contributing editor at Architectural Digest, and host of Indagare Travel.

Rowdy Meadow showcases an art-filled, Cubism-inspired house set in an extensive sculpture park.

Welcome to Rowdy Meadow, a visionary house that is a complete work of art — from its architecture, interior design, furnishings, and collection of contemporary art to its landscape architecture and private sculpture park. Inspired by Czech cubism, it is unlike any other house anywhere. Designed and decorated by Peter Pennoyer Architects in Hunting Valley, Ohio, it is a structure of tremendous complexity made to feel simple and calm by Pennoyer’s mastery of the language of this style.

Inside, Anne Walker guides the reader through the house, room by room, showcasing furnishings spanning the Arts and Crafts era through art deco, with pieces by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Josef Hoffmann, Dagobert Peche, Eileen Gray, and Gio Ponti; and fine art by Walton Ford and James Lee Byars. She then tours the Reed Hilderbrand–designed landscape and sculpture park—with works by Anish Kapoor and Andy Goldsworthy — spread throughout the 146-acre property.

Illustrated with photographs taken throughout the seasons by Eric Piasecki that capture Rowdy Meadow’s unique detailing, imagination, and energy, as well as with renderings and drawings, the book itself is an extraordinary achievement.

John Ike, Mitchell Owens, Principal photography by Richard Powers
ID: 16555
Видавництво: Vendome Press

Nine recent projects by renowned architect John Ike

A signature shingled house in a New York suburb, a renovated mid-century modern house in San Diego, a glass-and-brick house near Seattle, a beach house on the Atlantic coast, a reimagined historic building in Brooklin, Maine — the projects featured in this book vary widely in style, location, and materials, but all share a common sensibility. For John Ike, partner at Ike Baker Velten and formerly a founding partner of the award-winning firm Ike Kligerman Barkley, they are all vehicles illustrating the myriad ways architecture is created. His involvement in them ranges from mentor to principal architect and designer, but all are collaborations, and in each chapter he focuses attention on a person who was particularly instrumental in realizing the project, whether the interior designer, the landscape architect, the contractor, a craftsperson, or the client. With an authoritative text by seasoned architecture and design writer Mitchell Owens and specially commissioned photography, John Ike: 9 Houses, 9 Stories explores and celebrates the inextricable bond between the architect and those who implement his vision, a give-and-take that results in singularly designed residences.

About the Authors:

John Ike has been practicing architecture and design for more than four decades. He travels widely, and his aesthetic is influenced by the architectural traditions and regional inflections of the places he visits, particularly Italy, Scandinavia, Mexico, and northern Canada. In 1989, following a formative stint in the office of Robert A. M. Stern, with whom he had studied for his Master of Architecture degree at the Graduate School of Architecture at Columbia University, he co-founded Ike Kligerman Barkley. During his thirty-three years with Ike Kligerman Barkley, the firm published two books, Ike Kligerman Barkley: Houses and The New Shingled House. It received numerous awards, including the AIA New York Chapter Award, the DDB Stars of Design Award, the ICAA Julia Morgan Award, and the ICAA Stanford White Award, and it was named to the AD100 and the Elle Decor A-List. In 2023, Ike co-founded his new firm, Ike Baker Velten. As a designer, he has collaborated on the glass furniture line Chroma D with photographer Irene Mamiye. A father of three and an avid hunter and fisherman, Ike spends his spare time working on his mid-century modern residences in New Jersey and San Diego and his loft in Oddfellows Hall, a historic 19th-century ceremonial lodge in Brooklin, Maine.

Text by Mitchell Owens, Photographed by Derry Moore
ID: 5326
Видавництво: Rizzoli

In House celebrates some of the world’s most striking and eccentric rooms, beautifully captured by Derry Moore, the 12th Earl of Drogheda and a regular contributor to Architectural Digest and Nest magazines, who for nearly thirty-five years has inimitably photographed unique, style-setting houses. Richly diverse in style and period, what these extraordinary interiors share is an eccentricity and a commitment to decorative aesthetics that has singled them out in the eyes of the world’s most discerning arbiters of taste.

From an airy and colorful Moroccan palace to an austere but whimsical Scottish castle; from an Art Deco masterpiece in Jodhpur to Alphonse Mucha’s cluttered apartment in Prague; and from the museumlike home of one of London’s most macabre collectors to the extravagant remnants of Madrid’s aristocratic heritage, Moore reveals his impeccable taste and unrivaled eye for light in some of the most surprising and original rooms in the world.

Each of the houses is accompanied by a commentary by noted architecture and interior design writer Mitchell Owens, and each is uniquely laid out in sympathy with its character by award-winning graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook. Together, their vision has produced a testament both to extraordinary interior design and to the unique eye of a master of interior photography.
